Water. Without water there can be no life. It is quite staggering how few of us actually drink enough of it to sustain our body’s natural health. If our bodies don’t get enough water, how can we expect to function at an optimal level?

It should not be difficult to drink enough water. Our culture is filled with opportunities to drink water, and so often we choose something else. Think of how many cups of coffee are consumed at your desk while working. How many cans of soda are consumed just out of routine? Our refrigerators are stocked with juice, soda, milk, beer, sports drink, and the list goes on. We’ve been marketed to and programmed to believe that all of these drinks are good for us, give our bodies the vitamins and minerals it needs, the caffeine we need to make it through our day. But the majority of the liquids we drink are laced with sugar and chemicals that our bodies really don’t need and can be harmful in the amounts that we consume.

Water. Good old water. What would happen if we drank enough of it?

What is enough water? You should drink at least half of your body weight in ounces per day to maintain proper hydration for normal activity. That means: if you weigh 160lbs, you should be drinking 80 oz of water per day. If you are out in the hot weather or doing strenuous activity that causes you to perspire, you need to drink more. Juice is not a substitute for water and neither are sports drinks. Your body needs water to flush out the sugars and chemicals in the other liquids that you are drinking, so its safe to say that a person who drinks plenty of pop or juice can still be dehydrated.

When you have enough water, your nerves can function better. If you’re nerves function better, signals to your brain are more acute. If you’re brain is getting proper signals, it can send out proper instructions. Your body heals faster, your thinking is better, you pain has a chance at diminishing, your skin looks and feels better, your chronic conditions have a fighting chance at the healing process. Often, we feel hungry when we are actually thirsty. Have you ever had a craving to eat, but you can’t figure out what food you’re craving? Chances are you are just thirsty. Try drinking a glass of water the next time you have an empty craving. 5 minutes later the craving will be gone.

The Water Challenge

We challenge you to get properly hydrated for 7 days. With every cup of coffee, drink a cup of water, for every soda, drink water. Have water with your meals. When the waitress asks if you’d like a coke, ask for water instead. Instead of reaching for a sports drink to bring to your workout, reach for a bottle of water.

At the end of 7 days, let us know how much more energy you have, how much less you eat, how less severe is your chronic pain, how joints bend better, how you need fewer naps, and how you begin to notice the difference between days when you met your water needs versus the days when you didn’t. You will notice.

Let us know by commenting below. Take the challenge and we will publish your insights.

It was summer of 2010. I had returned from Rochester after treatment for a second round of cancer. My physical body was a mess. I had lost the use of my right arm due to a malignant nerve tumor that was removed. I went through nerve replacement surgery and had to remain in a brace for months to make sure the nerves healed. My left arm was also compromised because of cancer surgery 20 years ago. I had limited range of motion and use of my arm. I hurt.

My usual optimistic mental state of mind was deteriorating. I was in trouble. My back and shoulders hurt. I was listless, without energy or motivation. I had no ambition. I could not sleep. The list went on… Turning to prayer was all I could do. I asked for God’s direction and healing. Where do I go? What do I do?

Thinking (with God’s direction) that a chiropractor might help, I called Dr. Tiffany for a consultation. She was my cousin’s daughter, always better to have some connections, right. Lyndi answered the phone with a cheerful soothing voice. She listened to my symptoms and by the next morning, after mustering enough energy to climb the stairs, I was in the office of Dr. Tiffany Johnson.

Having never been to a chiropractor before, I had huge misconceptions about treatment. After the first few visits I knew 2 things for sure 1) I had been entirely wrong about chiropractic care and what it involved and 2) God had lead me in the right direction.

After the first month of care everyone noticed a distinct difference in my attitude and physical ability. I noticed a difference. I was happy. I had more energy. I felt almost like my old self again. The best part was that I never knew even before my recent cancer that I was in such bad shape. All I could do was to keep on improving, and I did.

It has now been over nine months since my first visit. I have made it to only one or two visits a week, depending on my stress levels! Now, you need to know all the positive benefits of chiropractic care with Dr. Tiffany.

I am able to wake up refreshed, not tired.

I sleep better.

I have lost most of the soreness and stiffness in my neck and shoulders.

I am far more agile.

I have regained a sense of balance.

My neurosurgeon in Rochester is impressed with how quickly the new nerves in my arm are responding to physical therapy.

I can move my arm and it gets easier every day.

Therapy has accelerated my function faster than the therapist had anticipated.

There are more, these are the most important.

This has been my experience with Dr. Tiffany and Lyndi. I appreciate how much they have helped me regain my sense of wellbeing. Thank you Dr. Tiffany and Lyndi.

God answers prayer…

* Nearly half (45%) of all Americans suffer from at least one chronic disease.
* In 2006, the amount spend treating chronic diseases was 1.65 TRILLION DOLLARS, nearly identical to the nation’s federal deficit.
* 85% of Chronic Disease can be REVERSED by positive lifestyle changes.
* The US spends the most on medical care among all industrial countries, yet our quality of health and LIFE isn’t any better.

When will you step up to do something different? When will you decide to stop being a part of the problem and start to become part of the solution?

You, your family, your community, your region, your nation, your world cannot wait. We need a movement. A movement that focuses on health again…not on disease. What we think about becomes. If we are promoting The Fight for the Cure, The War on Cancer, what words do we always think about? When you think of the C word, do you feel positive, happy and healthy? When you hear Fight, War, what happens to your blood pressure? How about supporting Peace, Love, Happiness, Health? Let’s fill ourselves up with happy, healthy dialogue so that our mind starts to believe that our body can heal.

Take responsibility for the one person you can control – YOU. Create balance in your body and mind. Get adjusted. Begin moving. Eat live foods. Love yourself. Listen to music. Read a book. Give a compliment. Laugh with friends.

In order to change what is happening to this nation, it starts with one person who is willing to make a difference for our children and our children’s children.

Who’s with me?

We just arrived home last night from a ski vacation with our good friends. It was an adult trip with two people we greatly love and admire. It was a quick, 4-day getaway, including a long drive to and from that was loaded with memories. As I’m taking a day to regroup, I’ve been wondering why I’m not ready to be home. The 4 of us all wanted to stay a few days longer and that feeling didn’t go away overnight. Upon reflecting on the amazing time we had, I found I learned some huge life lessons. Because I was in an environment that I felt safe in, I allowed myself to grow…or at least I have learned that today!

- The first thing I learned was the week before leaving. A practice member asked me when I last took time off for a vacation. Upon thinking, I realized it was 3 years ago. The response I received was, “Wow, Dr. Tiffany, I think you need to start doing what you tell all of us to do…take time for yourself, take time to recharge, take time to build relationships.” This was the beginning of my learning experience. What a great one it was!
- It had been over 10 years since I had downhill skied and my previous experiences were not extremely positive. The first time in junior high, I got scared, lost control and hit a tree. I had a mild concussion and injured my knee. It wasn’t as much about the physical pain/discomfort, but more about the emotional pain. I was scared. I was embarrassed. I was terrified. I thought I was hurt much more than I really was because my ego was shattered. I really didn’t think this vacation would bring all of that out in me again, but it did. As we graduated past the beginner mountain, we were ready to conquer another mountain. Although I was scared, I was sick of the 2 minutes runs and 10 minutes chairlift. Also, I needed a challenge and I sure got that! I got to the part of the ski run that dropped and I was absolutely terrified. I was trembling. I could have cried right there, but with people around me, I thought staying strong meant to hold everything in. I was not going down the hill. I took my skiis off, turned around and walked up the top quarter of the mountain. At that point I realized that not only was I scared of the unknown (couldn’t see the rest of the mountain after the drop), but I was also held hostage in the past. The tape playing in my brain was that of living in the past, that I wasn’t good enough and that I wasn’t brave enough to create a new present and future. Now I think of how many times that tape played over the weekend and in other areas of my life. I realized this way of thinking was holding me back and not serving me anymore. Without awareness, I did not have a choice to change. Now I have awareness and change is good.
- Why focus on the ‘what-if’s’ when I have the choice to create my own reality. All of these thoughts were going through my mind:
o “What if I get hurt?” I won’t be able to work and then my family will be negatively affected.
o “What if I try and fail?” Everyone is better than me and I don’t want them to wait for me. I don’t want to hold anyone back from having fun.
o “I would rather snowboard than ski.” This was only a ploy for me to not have to look into the eyes of fear.
I have learned that without reaching outside of my comfort zone, growth will not happen. Without attempting, I will not succeed. Now, after being home, this is even more apparent.
I looked at the big hill instead of breaking it down into bite size pieces
- Don’t attempt to eat the whole elephant in one bite; instead break it up into small, manageable bites. Instead of breaking the ski run into small parts, the only thing I could think about was how I was going to get to the bottom. I wanted to see the whole run. I wanted to be able to navigate my way without experiencing it step by step. Instead of trusting I was capable to adjust to the surroundings, I only could remember how I adjusted in the past. Therefore, in my mind, I had failed far before even starting.
- There’s nothing more important than spending time with people you love. Spend time with your spouse. Spend time with your children, together and separate. Spend time with close friends and tell them how much they mean to you. Take time out of your busy schedule to tell someone you love them. Take time out of your week to recharge yourself so that you have more to give to others. Be your best so that you can receive other people’s best.

The bottom line to my vacation experience is to JUST BE. BE you without creating your reality based on your past. BE you knowing you are worthy of great success in life. BE you without comparing yourself to others. JUST BE. Without this experience, I may make the same mistake over and over until I would reflect, just as I have done. Although it wasn’t a success on the slopes at the time, I am so very thankful that I have learned so many huge lessons…all on an amazing vacation with my best friend, my husband, and our close friends.

Thank you for reading my story and I hope at least one of these points will hit home and make you think about why you do what you do. When you find that piece, your life will transform because of your awareness surrounding all of your choices. Go on and JUST BE!

I came to Healing Touch Chiropractor because I have been struggling with VERY SEVERE gastrointestinal distress, anxiety, back pains, nervous system problems, and a WHOLE other array of issues that, I have now found, were all somehow related for the last 5 years. I had been on over 100 meds in 3 years and had been to 4 different hospitals and over 30 different Doctors. I have undergone 4 different surgeries and was on everything from depression/anxiety medications to menopause inducing medication with hormone replacement therapies ( I was 24 years old), to very strong auto-immune drugs that suppressed my system for months.

After my last surgery to remove my gallbladder from the medication that had damaged my system, I started seeing a naturopath. She recommended at that time that I try and see a chiropractor, namely Dr. Tiffany. I had heard some amazing stories via people that I met all over town and on the website about Dr. Tiffany and Healing Touch. I was very skeptical about going to get any kind of work done with my back because there are so many internet “horror” stories about chiropractors that just, “crack your back and go.” Needless to say, after all of my treatments and meetings with specialists, I convinced myself to just go in and give it a try.

I called over to make my initial appointment and was shocked when Lyndi answered the phone with, “Healing Touch Chiropractic this is Lyndi, I CAN HELP YOU.” Wow, that was a bold statement (and rightfully so). She informed me about my options on working with them and in detail what to expect at my first two appointments.

I went in to see Dr. Tiffany two weeks later and was greeted by a wonderfully warm atmosphere and a smile. The office was so bright and cheery and I shortly recognized Lyndi as the kind voice behind the desk that I had spoken with previously. I was already anxious to try this new way of living since I was diagnosed with a major systemic Candida infection. I had switched to a primarily raw & semi-vegan diet as well as cutting out all allergen foods. When I sat down to wait for the Doctor, I was given some great information about what chiropractic care was and how our nerves in our spine relate to our organs in the body and their function (innate intelligence).

I was then introduced to Dr. Tiffany. In the first 10 minutes of my appointment, I realized that she was caring, compassionate, empathetic, and extremely educated and knowledgeable on the information that she was giving me. Beyond that, she made me feel as no doctor up until that point had, appreciated, cared for, and understood. She explained to me that it is TOTAL BODY CARE and not just the chiropractic care that I thought she would recommend. She sat with me for TWO hours while I explained my rollercoaster ride through the medical system. She listened very carefully and explained to me what she thought I needed and what her course of action could be for me if I was to keep working with her. I then had my two scans that were provided for me at no additional cost (which I must say are so interesting and don’t hurt a bit!) and left feeling a little more assured then when I arrived.

Appointment two came and I was ready to see my results. As I suspected (as well as Dr. Tiffany had already figured previously) my back was like a pigsty, a MESS. She immediately gave me her recommendations, as well as another 45 minutes of us just discussing what she could do to help me, now that my results came back. She helped me establish some very helpful goals, diet, Innate Intelligence help ,journaling, exercises, and behavioral therapies, that she would also tend to WHILE doing the adjustment. When we finished, Lyndi came in and was so great in talking with me about what payment options would work best for me and I appreciated the care and abundance of information that was at my fingertips.

I happily agreed, although I knew what was next: My first adjustment. I laid down in the serene open adjustment area and proceeded with my first adjustment. I will tell you, it may be scary at first, but after the initial adjustment, it is a walk in the park.

The reason I write to such length is simple. I am ETERNALLY grateful for Healing Touch, Lyndi, and Dr. Tiffany! They have helped me put into perspective a WAY OF LIFE and not just a method for, “cracking backs” if you will. She gave me amazing instructions for not just chiropractic care, but TOTAL BODY CARE.
I was not sure of anything when I walked through those doors. But I am SURE of this now: Dr. Tiffany has helped me to save my life. I was literally a bump on a log, watching all of life’s gifts pass me by. I had tried everything with no success.

If you are even questioning whether or not you should see Healing Touch and Dr. Tiffany, I will use a word that she has used with me that I find helpful in everyday of my life “Trust”. Try it and see what miracles can come your way. You have nothing to lose and everything to gain by being a part of this “Family” (which is exactly how they make you feel here at HTC). My daily life is getting better each day and I intend to stick with what works. From the bottom of my heart, THANK YOU HTC, LYNDI, AND THANK YOU DR. TIFFANY! YOU ARE AN AMAZING WOMAN WITH AN ABUNDANCE OF KNOWLEDGE, LOVE, AND CARE FOR YOUR PATIENTS. YOU ARE TRULY A BLESSING TO EVERYONE YOU COME INTO CONTACT WITH.

I am thankful for my family – for the love, faith, trust and support they have put in me to continue do what I love. I am thankful for Lyndi, my office manager and the person responsible for the office running efficiently and effectively. If you haven’t, please thank her for the amazing job she does everyday, striving to make your time in our office memorable.

I am thankful for all whom have put their life in my hands. For you, our current and past practice members, I am forever grateful. I feel so grateful to have another ‘family’ away from my family. I believe that each person’s life should be full of love and joy. It breaks my heart to know that so many people live without joy and love and my responsibility is to show you the way – to allow your body to heal – and to change how your body expresses life.

As we begin a New Year, we are celebrating our successes at Healing Touch Chiropractic. We had the great opportunity to look for a new office space in the spring of 2010 and it was complete the fall of 2010. It is a beautiful healing center which offers opportunity now and in the future. We have additional space for our practice members and for our team to grow. If you are in the area, please stop in for a visit.

Because of you, we are able to reach out to more people and to our community. As our mission is to Restructure Your Life Through Your Body, we feel so many more lives will be changed through the power of chiropractic and having a team who loves and cares for everyone who walks through our door.

Thank you to everyone in my life – family, friends, staff and practice members. I am truly blessed.

~Dr. Tiffany

The Kaste Family Experience with HTC

My name is Kaja Kaste and my family and I started treatment at Healing Touch Chiropractic in October of 2009, to say the least we were in bad shape. I was currently in the middle of my second pregnancy and having severe pain in my lower back, which I chalked up to simply have back pain with my pregnancy, but by this point I was having problems walking sometimes. I did my initial scan and found out my results and started treatment with Dr. Tiffany immediately. During my consultation we also talked about my son whom at the time was 7 months old.

My pregnancy with Gracin had been relatively easy, with no major complications until delivery. Gracin got “stuck” and needed to have vacuum assistance not only once but a total of 4 times to get him out. This caused trauma to his head including a large bruise and cut. This healed, but it wasn’t until I discussed this with Dr. Tiffany and we did a scan on Gracin did we find out the lasting results of this traumatic birth on my sweet little boy. This finally answered a few issues we had been having with him with sleep patterns and fairly severe reflux (we usually dirtied a full burp cloth after every feeding). After a few treatments with Dr. Tiffany we started to notice a huge difference and now he sleeps through the night, take regular naps, and no longer deals with reflux. We have also noticed a difference in his immunity.

The next challenge was talking my husband Kory into “trying it out.” Like me, Kory had experience with chiropractic care but was reluctant to accept that he needed treatment that would require him to get adjusted regularly. But I can tell you since he started his treatment in December he is a different person and no longer has pain every day.

In Febuary we brought our beautiful son Nolan into the world. Nolan’s delivery was great and we needed no medical intervention in the delivery. By this time we knew the benefits of chiropractic care and that starting it early would be the most beneficial for Nolan. Two days after Nolan was born we took a trip to the office and he was adjusted, to this day he sleeps very well and has never had an issue with reflux.
I also am a firm believer that the chiropractic care and prenatal massages I received while pregnant better prepared my body for the birth of Nolan. I also had a much quicker recovery afterward, which I could not be more thankful for!

Our overall experience at HTC has been amazing. Dr. Tiffany and Lyndi make the experience very comfortable and fun!

Why do we compare our health to the health of our friends, family or someone we do not even know? Do you ever find yourself saying, “My mom had headaches when I was growing up, so it’s no surprise that I do, too”? Or what about, “My friend can eat all the fast food he wants and never gains a pound.” Or, “My doctor told us that heart disease runs in our family, so I better be prepared.”

What do these mean? Does it mean that because your mom had headaches, you will have them? Or because your friend is thin and eats low quality food, that means that if you do that, you will be thin, too? If heart disease runs in your family, are you becoming a victim to the diagnosis?

Or in all of these cases, do you have a choice? Do you have a choice to do things differently? Of course, you do! It is a choice to take personal responsibility for your life. What in your life is a result of a choice you have made? Everything! There is no such thing as a mistake, unless you don’t learn from it. What if your doctor told you that because of the strong family history of heart disease or diabetes or cancer, there is a strong likelihood that you may suffer from these chronic diseases? Would you change your lifestyle? Or become aware of your lifestyle choices? What would you do? Wait for the diagnosis? 75% of chronic diseases (heart disease, diabetes, cancer) can be reversed by our lifestyle choices. That means 3 out of 4 people, if they improve the function of their body, their body can heal. Healing doesn’t take place at the same time as disease does. If your nervous system isn’t working properly (which it isn’t if you’re suffering from disease), you’re not eating whole food, you’re not moving your body or thinking well, is your body in a healing state? What are you waiting for? Find a chiropractor who can help lead you to this life. We are here to serve the Fargo, Moorhead and West Fargo communities.

So, the question comes back to, “Why do we compare our health to others?” You deserve a life free from disease. You deserve to live happily and freely. You deserve to express life at a high potential. Start today by doing one thing to move you closer to health and happiness.
